Heat Demand Varies through the year
Energy for space heating
Our enhanced technology can produce heat for space heating, but the output temperatures are not high enough to produce electrical power. This is due to the lower temperatures in the geothermal gradient in our ideal locations. There are locations with enough heat energy in Alberta, but at present, most of those locations are too far from the electrical grid and electricity consumers. Heat Demand Varies through the year, and Algar can help level the energy requirements
Variable demand
The demand for electrical power demand is relatively constant throughout the year, but the demand for heating energy varies due to the variable ambient temperatures in Alberta.
This is an example of heat demand by month for a sizeable building such as a greenhouse in Alberta’s climate.
Five months of the year require 80% of the heat demand
Seasonal heat demand in Alberta causes problems for temperature regulation in Alberta facilities. The summers may be hot, and heat energy needs to be removed from the facility. This heat is usually wasted. Using Algar’s technology, there is an opportunity to capture and store heat until the demand for heat increases.

Winter months pose the opposite problem to the summer. Alberta’s winter temperatures can drop to -40 degrees Celsius and the demand for heat from fossil fuels heating is high. The typical Algar Geothermal installation will reduce the demand for fossil fuels by 60%. from just one well This means lower operating costs, fewer GHG emissions, and a local source of heat energy that can be owned and managed by the well owner.
Geothermal energy is constant when heat demand varies
Unlike wind farms and solar energy, the geothermal gradient provides constant energy. Geothermal energy can be depleted if the load is more than what the formation can produce, but when properly managed, Algar Geothermal’s technology, geothermal energy is always available. The problems created when heat demand varies through the year can be managed by Algar Geothermal
